Bulk items include household furnishings, bicycles, stoves, microwaves, washers, etc. If you dispose of old carpet/rugs, 

please cut them up into 3' or 4' sections and tie with twine for easy handling.

Tin and aluminum cans, empty paint cans.

Glass jars and bottles. Plastic milk, juice, soup, flavored drink and aseptic cartons, detergent, soap containers .

Newspaper, magazines, mail (junk and personal), phone books, food boxes (remove plastic liner), computer paper, flyers, wrapping paper (no foil or plastic wrap), soda and beer cartons (no food-soiled paper, please!)

Matrress and box springs acont as 2 bulk items and MUST be wrapped in plastic.

DO recycle all empty plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard.

DO keep foods and liquids out of recycling.

DO keep plastic bags out of recycling.

  DON’T include food-soiled items - they can turn an entire load of recycling into trash.

DON’T add sharp or dangerous materials like needles and electronics – they can cause injury to our workers. 

DON’T toss in “tanglers” like rubber hoses and wires – they can shut down an entire recycling center!

DON’T include bulky items like propane tanks or construction debris.

The Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA)

Please be advised that effective January 24, 2013, landfills in Pennsylvania will no longer be allowed to accept certain “covered” electronic devices.  A new state law – Act 108 of 2010 – known as The Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA) defines these electronics to include desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, computer peripherals, and televisions. The CDRA requires that these devices be recycled.

 

THESE ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED:

 

NO – Televisions & Computer Monitors

NO – Computers

NO – Printers & Other Computer Peripheral Devices

NO – Components of Any of the Above Listed Devices

 

The Lackawanna County Recycling Center at 3400 Boulevard Avenue in Scranton will accept electronics for a fee - please phone the recycling center at (570) 963-6868 with any questions
